Case Study SIGVARIS GROUP

Introduction

SIGVARIS GROUP, a global leader in medical compression solutions, launched a strategic initiative to modernize its IT operations by implementing Azure Arc and Azure Update Manager. The project aimed to replace legacy SCCM processes, unify management across hybrid environments, and strengthen security through Microsoft Defender and Azure Policy. With support from baseVISION AG, SIGVARIS GROUP successfully connected on-premises and cloud servers to the Azure control plane, enabling centralized governance, automated patching, and improved compliance. This transformation simplified operations and established a scalable foundation for future cloud-native services and digital innovation.

The result: a secure, flexible, and future-ready IT environment aligned with SIGVARIS GROUP’s vision for operational excellence and modernization.

The vision: Empowering Innovation Through Unified Governance and Compliance

The vision behind this initiative is to create a secure, scalable, and future-ready IT environment that empowers SIGVARIS GROUP to innovate without constraints. It focuses on:

  • Unified Management across Hybrid Infrastructure
Bringing all servers, on-premises and cloud, under a single governance model using Azure Arc, ensuring visibility and consistency.
  • Security and Compliance by Design
Implementing Microsoft security benchmarks and Azure Policy to enforce compliance and proactively reduce risk.
  • Operational Simplicity and Agility
Leveraging automation and cloud-native tools to streamline patching, monitoring, and identity management, reducing manual overhead.

Together, these focus points enable SIGVARIS GROUP to build a resilient, future-ready IT foundation that supports innovation and growth.

The Transformation: Transforming Hybrid IT into a Secure, Compliant, and Agile Environment

To overcome operational challenges and prepare for a cloud-first future, SIGVARIS GROUP embarked on a strategic transformation of its hybrid IT environment.

Business Challenges

SIGVARIS GROUP faced several obstacles in managing its infrastructure. Fragmented management tools for on-premises and cloud servers created inconsistent governance and limited visibility. Ensuring timely patch compliance across distributed servers proved difficult, while the absence of centralized policy enforcement increased security risks. Additionally, legacy dependencies on SCCM-based processes hindered modernization efforts and required replacement with more agile solutions.

Solution Approach

To address these challenges, SIGVARIS GROUP connected Windows and Linux servers outside Azure to the Azure control plane using the Azure Connected Machine Agent. This integration established a single pane of glass for inventory, monitoring, and policy enforcement. The company also integrated Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Azure Policy, and Azure Update Manager to achieve unified governance. Centralized patch management was implemented with maintenance configurations aligned to SCCM standards, complemented by update groups and a tagging strategy to ensure compliance across global servers.

Technical Implementation

The technical rollout began by enabling resource providers and creating dedicated subscriptions and resource groups. Role-based access control (RBAC) and Azure Policies were configured to maintain compliance. Test servers were onboarded to validate connectivity, and monitoring alerts were deployed to ensure operational readiness. Looking ahead, SIGVARIS GROUP plans to introduce VM Applications for software deployment and enable Entra ID login for secure remote access via RDP.

Outcomes and Benefits

This transformation delivered significant benefits. SIGVARIS GROUP achieved centralized visibility and governance across its hybrid infrastructure, ensuring consistent application of security baselines through Defender integration. Operational efficiency improved as manual patching efforts were reduced, and compliance reporting became more streamlined. Most importantly, the initiative laid a scalable foundation for future adoption of cloud-native services, reducing the on-premises footprint and enabling long-term innovation.

By modernizing its IT environment, SIGVARIS GROUP not only resolved immediate challenges but also positioned itself for sustainable growth and enhanced security in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
