Case Study Fracht AG

Case Study Fracht AG

The migration to the cloud allowed Fracht AG to standardize and automate key processes, significantly improving efficiency across the organization. At the same time, hardware and software security were elevated to a higher standard, ensuring a safer and more reliable IT environment. The introduction of OneDrive and SharePoint has enhanced flexibility and mobility, benefiting both IT teams and end users in their daily work. Devices are now fully up to date, and the entire environment is optimized to meet current and future requirements.

Through this transformation, Fracht AG has not only modernized its IT infrastructure but also created a solid foundation for sustainable digital growth and future-ready operations.

The Starting Point: A Proven Infrastructure with Growth Potential

At the start of the project, Fracht AG had a fully functional IT infrastructure that had grown and proven itself over the years. Most devices were managed using ManageEngine, while initial tests with Microsoft Intune had already been conducted.
Data was stored locally on internal servers, providing a stable and controlled environment. Application installations were mostly carried out manually, allowing for flexibility in addressing individual requirements.
In terms of security, only a few restrictions had been defined. This situation clearly offered room for improvement, particularly regarding standardization, automation, and modern protection mechanisms. This is precisely where the collaboration with baseVISION began.

Vision: Modernizing Through the Cloud

Fracht AG, in collaboration with baseVISION, set out to fundamentally modernize its IT landscape, with a clear focus on standardization, security, and user experience. The vision: modernizing through the cloud.

  • At the core of this initiative is the clean-up of historically grown configurations and the introduction of a unified naming convention, laying the foundation for a structured and future-ready environment.
  • A key milestone is the migration of data and applications to the cloud. The implementation of SharePoint and OneDrive is designed not only to simplify collaboration but also to enhance mobility and flexibility for employees.
  • New standards are also being introduced in the area of security: security baselines for hardware and software, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and Windows Hello for Business will form a robust security foundation moving forward.
  • Software deployment will be automated and simplified through the use of PSADT and Patch My PC Cloud, while the planned introduction of Windows Autopatch will reduce manual effort and ensure systems remain up to date.
  • For support, a reliable and secure remote support solution with TeamViewer Tensor is being implemented – a solution that benefits both IT teams and end users alike.

The Transformation: From Concept to Capability

The vision was implemented in multiple phases, practical, learning-oriented, and always in close collaboration between baseVISION and Fracht AG.

Workshop and Scope Definition

The project began with an on-site workshop, during which the current situation was jointly analyzed and the project scope defined. This provided a solid foundation for the subsequent steps.

Concept Phase

During the concept phase, tailored solutions for the customer environment were developed and discussed collaboratively. For Fracht AG, many aspects were new or different from their previous experience. The exploration of the possibilities offered by the Microsoft Cloud was therefore engaged and intensive. There was extensive reading, discussion, and critical questioning. This learning process enhanced understanding of the new environment and laid the foundation for a successful implementation.

Implementation and Testing

The implementation followed the concept, starting with a pilot group to gain initial experience and make necessary adjustments. Despite occasional challenges and the sometimes complex cloud approach, knowledge and expertise grew steadily.

Rollout and Knowledge Building

The rollout was carried out in phases across the different locations. Through daily work with and around Microsoft Intune, Fracht AG developed solid, hands-on knowledge of the Microsoft Cloud environment. The project was implemented not only technically but also culturally embedded within the organization.

The transformation was not just a technical change, but also a shared learning process that enabled Fracht AG to actively shape its IT landscape and position itself for the future.
